CS 689 - Special Topics in Numerical and Scientific Computation

Bulletin Description

Advanced topics in numerical analysis, scientific computation, and complexity of continuous problems. Specific topics may include, but are not limited to: iterative methods, advanced parallel algorithms in numerical linear algebra, multivariate function approximation and integration.

Prerequisites

CS-537 or consent of instructor.

Expected Preparation

Solid foundation in numerical analysis and other skills that may depend on specific topics, e.g., efficiency in a high level programming language.

Student Learning Outcomes

Mastery of key concepts and techniques discussed in the course. Familiarity with the current literature in the topic area. Strong preparation for doing independent research work in the topic area.  Familiarity with research conducted by the faculty instructor.

Week by Week Course Outline:

Will depend on the topic and will be announced by the faculty instructor as early as possible but at least one month in advance. A significant portion of the course should be devoted to a study and discussion of recent research papers in the area of the topic.
